The spirit of hospitality within the tea ceremony and Japanese culture is also connected to etiquette in everyday life. Since the Heian period, it has been used as a ritual in Shinto and Buddhism belief, still largely transmitted nowadays.<\/p>\n

~Tea Ceremony<\/strong>~ While listening to the precepts of the Shingon Buddhism from the Daigoji\u2019s monk inside the private area of Sanbo-in\u2019s Shirasho-in (Important Cultural Property), you can experience customary Japanese etiquette, passed down from Buddhism and tea ceremony practices.<\/p>\n

Copying sutras began when monks transferred sutras to spread the teachings of the Buddha. Through introspection, meditation removes uncertainty and worldly desires with the purpose to find peace of mind and internal balance.<\/p>\n

~ Sutra copying and meditation ~<\/strong>The private area of Sanboin’s Shirasho-in opens its doors to visitors willing to experience the practice of Sutra copying, such as the “Takao Juku Kannon Sutra” or the “One character Sutra\u00a0\u00bb, adapted to beginners and foreigners. The One Character Sutra\u2019s datas will be enshrined inside the Space Temple to be launched into space in 2024. After attending the Space Memorial Service at the Reih\u014dkan Museum, the temple offers meditation sessions inside registered National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties.<\/p>\n

Eating traditional Monk Cuisine is also part of the ascetic training to understand the importance of life itself. In Japan, before tarting the meal, we say ”Itadakimasu”, which can be translated as ”I humbly receive\u2019\u2019. This gesture of gratitude for our present life by receiving other living forms is called “meal etiquette”.<\/p>\n

\uff5eTraditional Monk Cuisine<\/b>\uff5eWhile listening to the meal chants and eating the traditional monk cuisine, you can learn about the significance behind the Japanese meal custom and its table manners.<\/p>\n

“Goma” is a mystic rite of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism to pray for the fulfillment of various wishes. Among them, “Saito Goma” is a large-scale Fire Memorial Service held outdoors, directly linked to the Shugendo, the Japanese\u00a0mountain\u00a0asceticism. Small pieces of wood are burned while Buddhist monks and ascetics recite sutras.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\uff5eFire Ritual Ceremony (Goma)\uff5e<\/strong>At the Fire Ceremony Dojo, one of the historic sites of the Temple, Saito Goma will be held to pray for worldwide peace.<\/p>\n
